Naropa University promotes so called contemplative education that starts with learning about yourself through contemplative practice; “the awareness and energy you derive from this will make you more effective at everything you do.” With great focus on metaphysical quest and spirituality, Naropa University defines itself as “a Buddhist-inspired, student-centered liberal arts university in Boulder, Colorado.”
The highest degrees from Naropa are at the master level, including MA Transpersonal Psychology: Ecopsychology (low residency), MA Contemplative Education (low residency), and MA Contemplative Psychotherapy. There is no online program but some require low residency with combination of online classes.
Naropa University was first accredited by the North Central Association in 1986. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaffirmed Naropa University’s accreditation status for a five-year period on September 16, 2010. Naropa University is the only Buddhist academic institution to receive United States regional accreditation.
